Research 15

L- prosthetic makeup artists compete against each other to create prostheses such as those found in science fiction and horror films. Actress McKenzie Westmore, a member of the Westmore family of makeup artists, serves as the show's host, with judges being Academy Award-winning makeup artist Ve Neill (Ed Wood, Beetlejuice), television and film makeup artist Glenn Hetrick (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5, The Hunger Games), and creature designer and director Patrick Tatopoulos (I Am Legend, Resident Evil: Extinction, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans).[2] Industry figures and artists including Sean S. Cunningham, Filippo Ioco, Greg Nicotero and Michael Westmore serve as guest judges.[1]
I- this a unbelievable chance for makeup artist to work for. It's gives you access all sorts of connections and future chances.


L- winner receives US$100,000 and a year's supply of makeup from Alcone (changed to US$25,000 of makeup in season 2),[3] a "grand prize that will launch a career".
I- having this opportunity jump starts your career In a big way. And I am honored too try out the application process for myself.

L- Face Off premiered January 26, 2011 on Syfy. Syfy announced March 16, 2011 that Face Off has been renewed for a second season. Casting was slated to begin later the same month.[5] The new season is slated to air January 11, 2012, and will include 14 contestants.[6] The second season began airing on January 11, 2012. On February 7, 2012, Syfy announced that Face Off has been renewed for a third season.
I- I may have the possiblity of being on the third. R fourth season so I am currently in training for casing but the outcome looks promising.

Research Check

L - Makeup artist often analyze a character, do research, and confer with the director to get the best creation.
I- a lot of extra work Required that your not necessarily going to get paid for.
L- Have a creative imagination and a strong visual sense.
I- it's really hard to always be on the spot creativley. Sometimes you get stuck so you have to practice somewhat at improving your creativity and originality if you want to survive in this business.
L- Be methodical and pay attention to detail
I- Detail is key, if you can't convince yourself that what your looking. At is real then how are you suppose to convince others?
L- You need to be 21 years of age to be considered for training for TV and film work. This training will take you a further year. FT2, however, trains junior freelance make-up artists for TV and film work from the age of 18 as long as they already have NVQ Level 2 in both Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.
I- 21? Not really. I've gotten work with films and I'm not even 18.

The Product

So far the product of my senior project has been graduating and receive my make-up license as a beauty and character makeup artist. I've gotten my make-up card from the big make-up companies in Southern California as well. The completion of the classes has been my biggest goal and I hope to go back and recieve my license for FX.

Independent Component 1

L- I, Samantha Kowal, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work. 
(b) I have been attending "Ruby Make-up Academy" in order to complete my hours and better my make-up artistry skills. The classes teach everything from eyeliner to latex and I have truly grown stronger as a make-up artist because of them.
Interpretive
Practicing as a freelance make-up artist and doing internships with accomplished make-up artist has defienetley helped me strengthen the answer to my EQ. I work and learn at Ruby's every weekend Saturday and Sunday except for the past month. My hours were from 9am- 6pm and going there studio practice time added up as well.
Applied
The work I've done at Ruby's has helped me answer my EQ by allowing me to work in that special environment and meet great and accomplished (by my definition) make-up artist. My mentors are so passionate and so open to showing me there art. It's unbelievable the experience I have gotten because of independent component.
