Senior Project Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

I'm really proud that everyone had a really fun time. Everyone seemed genuinely interested and willing to participate in everything. My 2 hr outcome was amazing.

(2) Questions to Consider

AE. I think I worked pretty hard on my  hr and my entire senior year. I think I deserve it and I definitlety went above and beyond. I custom make metal plates at my dads shop so everyone had the proper material and so were the cosmeics. STayed really late setting up and cleaning for the room to be perfect.

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?

AE. I gave it my all. My senior project went further than I expected it to go. I put in over 200 hours and understand my topic with great deatail. It has turned into a career for me that I'm extremely proud of.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?

Service learning was amazing. Getting exposer in the make-up industry and getting the skills to make it in the industry.

(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?

I had to go to high school so sometimes I'd miss out on really good make-up opportunities; but I wouldn't be where i am without IPOLY.

(5) Finding Value

This is now my career. I will possibly be signing a contract with Ruby make-up academy this summer along with the unbelievable opportunity of working on the TV show Faceoff. I've gotten a lot of experience and I'm extremely grateful for senior project.

1. The student will walk into a dark room. Candles with their names will be on the seat I have chosen for them. Mood music will be in the background of the dark room and I want them to think of their fears and creatures in that have been kept in the back of their minds. Once I turn on the lights I want them to try and bring out there character by sketching it and seeing if they have the capability to bring the creature out of their head and into the real world.
2. Electric candles will be bought and placed on their assigned seats. Paper to sketch and music to expand their minds. NO pictures because I want them to create a character from they’re own fears.
3. The activity relates to my answer by getting the students interested in my topic and allowing them to feel the before process of being a make-up artist.     Interpretive
The Most important thing I gain from my service learning experience was all the skills and experience a horror make-up artist needs to posses. Without my service learning I wouldn't have gained the experience I have now from any one else.

   Applied
My service learning helped me answer my EQ because my service learning opened me up to actual make-up artist in the field and allowed me to talk to make-up artist and find what I needed in order to answer my EQ accurately.

Independent Component 2

L- I, Samantha Kowal, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) I have been attending "Ruby Make-up Academy" in order to complete my hours and better my make-up artistry skills. The classes teach everything from eyeliner to latex and I have truly grown stronger as a make-up artist because of them.
Interpretive
Practicing as a freelance make-up artist and doing internships with accomplished make-up artist has defienetley helped me strengthen the answer to my EQ. I work and learn at Ruby's every weekend Saturday and Sunday except for the past month. My hours were from 9am- 6pm and going there studio practice time added up as well.
Applied
The work I've done at Ruby's has helped me answer my EQ by allowing me to work in that special environment and meet great and accomplished (by my definition) make-up artist. My mentors are so passionate and so open to showing me there art. It's unbelievable the experience I have gotten because of independent component.

Helping 2013

1) For my senior project I want to  do something film related. More the side of directing/ producing than anything else. Since I don't have the resource to make a short film or any equipment for special effects I was planning on using what I have and making a documentary on an aspiring singer/ songwriter as she makes her first EP.

- Taking the ROP class would be the easiest to get all your hrs and independent component out of the way or even getting mentored by private director would be really great and you should keep them around for future interviews.

2) I recently go tin touch with someone in the film industry and he is currently working on TV shows today so he has agreed to help me with anything I need for the senior project. He has told me about workshops he works with on his spare time and I'm planning on using those for some service learning.

- It's really great that you have a head start. those are really great sources and they will defiantly come in handy with all your senior assignments.

3) I am actually really excited to see this years senior presentations because I think I'll see a lot of cool ones. Everyone does something different and usually they pick something that they're really interested in and I like when people have a passion for what their project is. I want to get ideas of what I like when presenting and different ways to do things.

- You should go to mine my friend, I promise you won't be disappointed ;)

4) Do you think senior year is the hardest year? I heard the components have to be related to your project, how does that work? Do you think my project idea is ok so far? Is there anything else I should be thinking about to prepare?

- Honestly I think senior year is the easiest. It may seem hard at first but you push through it. If you have a senior project that your truly passionate about you have nothing to worry about as long as you have somewhere to get the hours. Worry about college and money is the biggest stress. My biggest challenge of senior year was trying to find a reason to get up and push myself to get to school.
